Doomben Cup Preview

ShivvvvvvvvvvvvermeTIMBERS

2 weeks in a row we get to flaunt our group 1 Racing! The BRC will be delighted as the Mugs walk down Nudgee Road again and head straight to the bar to receive the best half beer half froth, they've ever had.

The sun's been out all week, so we should see a bit more of a classic Doomben track, hard and fast. The rail goes out 2m so it wouldn't hurt your chances to sit on the speed and have enough to kick, lick and DICK.

We start our day with the weekly Chris Waller middle distance staying handicap plate. I Could Do Better comes off a last start demolition as #THEY knew when Pikey saluted last down the GC. Behind him stormed home Cellarmaid and Windermere who both meet him better at the weights this week. Olympic Class and Tavion Prince wish they could have that start again. Prince of Arragon lines up at the unders here from winning a BM72 last start apparently makes you a favourite. It'll be a race that shapes to have a bit of speed, with Olympic Class and Tavion Prince looking for redemption, but does this set up for a brilliant Joymaker finish? All this and more at 11:34am Saturday.

The Gold Coast form is again on show here as we'll get an early look at some well fancied runners later in the day through Goldifox here. The Foxwedge mare ran further sideways than further in the straight last week and with Willow sticking aboard looks to have the class edge on a lot of this field. The Guntantes of old looks to be creeping through the cracks as the 4YO had a fast finishing 2nd behind Slow Hands last start and with Cloak looking to take on the speed, the tempo will be on. That leaves us to Right or Wrong, well, you're brave if you go back to the well again. Nash Rawiller onboard, sticks to the mile, we've said to much.

Our first black type race for the day presents itself in the form of the Carter Stakes. The 2YO's will compete over the 1200m for a handy purse of $150K. Socialist boasts Sydney form from the Maher Eustace, but honestly, that's it? LAY

Dovetail Diva and Stellar Magic are the two that light up this field, the Diva out exceeded everyone's form last start with a super game 4th (1L) behind Subterranean and Ranch Hand and Stellar Magic was unlucky behind Miss Hipster at listed level last start! What a battle, #QLDFORMISTHEFORM

Stacked, that's what Race 4 is. They weren't pissing (brilliant jurnalizm) around getting Rocketing By to Matthew Dunn, Wisdom of Water is fast becoming Punters enemy #1 and Kisukano, C'mon baby girl #ROTHFIREFORM.

Wisdom of Water could take up the early running here and it could be what this colt needs. One thing we know, is that luck in running will be a real thing in this stacked field and will also be the perfect excuse to use when Yes Yup Yay blows everything away at 101/1.

Ok Mugs, thanks for reading up until this point, it's Group Racing time, what we're here for.

Greysful Glamour should lead for fun, she looks to be the only speed on paper and will get the perfect run from the draw. Coming off a pretty up and down prep, this ghostly grey needs a Good track, she'll get that Raceday. Paradee resumes first up for the O'Brien/Williams combination. Was an absolute winning machine up here at the Gold Coast during the summer program and brought that form to Group 1 level with a great run behind Homesman in the Australian Cup, she's the obvious class in the race, there's always a but with horse racing and her's? Being first up. Yamazaki loves QLD? What a race.

It's QUADDIE time and what a way to kick it off! THE NEED FOR SPEED V2.

Sugar Boom and Niedorp.

They almost outdid each other last start but let's not forget that Usmanov is a pretty good orse'. They look to be the speed, or do they? The Odyssey, Kylease and Spurcraft could all go forward from there good draws. Varda relishes the 1100 and bringing some quality Sydney Group form cannot be discredited. This looks to be the perfect appetiser to the Main Event and in honour of the great Chief De Beers you won't mind downing one for DA CHIEF.

DOOMBEN CUP - 2000m - Group 1

Is it as simple as Zaaki versus the rest?

Peak fitness, beat most of this field last start, hasn't run a bad race.. yet?

What do we make of the good track form? 2 starts ago was outmuscled by Hang Man who has since dissapointed in QLD, Paths of Glory and Polly Grey don't exactly scream standouts in a field like this either.

Which of the Waller runners stood out from the Hollandaise Sauce Steaks could you take here? Humidor was running on well, but it's Humidor. Shared Ambition and Toffee Tongue seemed to be in the wrong part of the race, then we had this from the King of overhype himself:

C'mon mate, Sir Dragonet is best of the rest of a pretty ordinary bunch of WFA hacks. But, someone has to win the big one! Shoutout to the NZ fan club and Melody Belle.

It's #STRADBROKESEASON implications here!

Skins V Garibaldi

Barrier 18 v Barrier 5

DVD V Gollan

Thorton V Boss

WHAT A BATTLE

There's a Group 1 winner Tofane in there but honestly, who cares, what a clash this will be. Both probably need to win to gain a start in the Stradbroke so it's Grand Final day for these 2 QLDER's and it'll be delicious to watch.

The Get Out Stakes is 18 horses trying to propel into an Oaks through the Roses.

Waller, Gollan and Bargain. Grace and Harmony is the obvious favourite here as she beat most of her rivals convincingly last start in the Bracelet, Tycoon Evie flattened out or a question mark run? We had queries beyond a mile so we'll see that theory blow up in our face here!

Bargain is the wildcard here, comes through some incredible form through the Sydney Championships. Has has a trial since her last start 3rd in the Australian Oaks behind Hungry Heart and straight to the 2000m tells us she's fit and firing. Come 4:34pm Saturday it'll be back the truck up time!

Enjoy the day Mugs - Check out our selections below
