The mid-week lottery continues and today we back to where the mugs make the magic happen at Doomben Racecourse. While we have had weeks of no rain it seems someone has left the sprinklers on at Doomben and we will be racing on a soft 6 track. We have nine races that will be run and won and with the rail out 7.5 metres it will be no disadvantage to be drawn out, with the first race to jump at 11.58am AEST.
Race 1: QTIS 2YO Handicap (1200M)
I tell you what it is a pretty tough race to start the day but the most absurd part for me is lack of runners. This race is the perfect cash grab and someone will win big with the QTIS bonuses in play along with the nice prizemoney cheque on offer, good luck to the owners.
Race 2: MAIDEN (1650M)
We launched into Maple Door last time in and this prep has been building nicely with two seconds over the 1200M. Steps out to 1650M here for the second time in his career and the way he has been hunting the line down late this extra trip should really suit. He gets the services of James Orman to help so we are looking forward to seeing how the relation of our boy Sir Carter goes in this race tomorrow.
Race 3: MAIDEN (1200M)
Surely today is the day for Landsborough Lad. He has the form around one of our mug favourites in Badgers Nuts and prior beat home a fancy of ours for last week in Chasing Jackley. From barrier will lead or sit off Our Armistice and with a slight freshen up while holding condition should be too strong here.
Race 4: Benchmark 68 (1200M)
Yes this race is simply back up into Starzam again. Bin the last run on the synthetic it is simply a track you either handle it or you don’t and he just didn’t it is really that simple. Orman stays aboard and we get $9 thanks to the spruik on Huss on First which is still yet to have a rider nominated so this could change the market substantially. This could be a nice form race going forward to see where a few of these are actually at.
Race 5: Benchmark 68 (1200M)
We are leaning the way of the Rocky King here with that form around Argyle Pink the way we are going. Merimee is classy and a second to Gypsy Goddess over 1600M looks super for this but I am not sure that 1200M is the right trip. Argyle Pink is back slightly in trip but should be able to come across with Sergeant Hulka and position up outside him or just in behind and will get the perfect run. The other huge tick is we get one of the strongest riders around in King Callow steering and we know he will leave nothing to chance.
Race 6: Class 1 (1350M)
Interesting runner here in Jayanthi being scratched from Sydney to run here comes up favourite along with Sabalenka for Heathcote and the Waller army with Prasiolite and Carneros. It is hard to compare and judge all these form lines but if I had to have a bet I would be Prasiolite, has a vibe of Waller sting about it coming into this. Was due to run last Wednesday so that would not help having the meeting cancelled but jockey, barrier draw and distance are all big ticks here.
Race 7: Class 5 (1650M)
Pretty interesting race here with a few of these first up into it and probably not their pet trip but two standout and look chances at odds. Both Donandkim and Giveitallali were good behind Broken Hero last start and with any improvement both will give this a shake at a nice price.
Race 8: Benchmark 70 (1050M)
Have to be with the up and down Clairvue Star here. Has a great fresh record and gets the services of the premier jockey in James Orman. Being drawn out also isn’t much of a concern he does like to go back and round them up. There will be plenty of pace here with the speedy types inside so as long as the track plays even he can win this.
Race 9: Class 2 (1110M)
Was half keen on Nord Lyon here but the barrier absolutely wrecks that. Dovetail Diva and Snappy Reply should handle the rest but if they go bonkers out in front look out for Snazz ‘n’ Charm and Nord Lyon as they will be flying late.
