Doomben | June 22

Well this weekend the Brisbane Carnival comes to an end at Eagle Farm, but before that final count down we have another mid-week card from the home of Brisbane racing, Doomben Racecourse. We have eight races that will be run and won and we are running on a Good 4 track, with the rail out 11.5m. The first race is set to jump at 12:33pm AEST.

Race 1: MAIDEN (1200M)

It is a pretty even race to start the day. Maple Door is a half brother to our boy Sir Carter and he lines up so that will be a nice watch if he comes out and wins. The other watch is Pretty Flash who had one start at O’Dea & Hoysted and now lines up for the Capewell camp. Ear muffs are off for the first time, which is always a gear change I like to see. It is wide open.

Race 2: Benchmark 72 (2070M)

A super small field here for the mid-week middle distance handicap, but we need to side with Chris Waller here. Khaalis has been building to this all prep and while Fast Talking should get an uncontested lead, the lead into this is not nice. Khaalis has gone 1600 to 1800 and now to 2070M which just looks the right recipe.

Race 3: MAIDEN (1600M)

Sit and watch race; over the mile, all non-winners. Special mention to the Healy yard who bring Critical Thinker in here but it is just too hard to assess. Happy to sit this one out.

Race 4: Benchmark 78 (1660M)

Chris Waller has a really nice hand up here in Queensland today and we have been all about Seleque the last few starts and it is once again hard to see any of these beating her. If there is one in this race that is the overs it is probably Black Log (although I have lobbed it in the sea many moons ago). He is in with a nice weight and is drawn in to sit just off the pace. Play the quinella with those two.

Race 5: Class 1 (1350M)

Well let me tell you, there isn't anything the Mugs loves more than Badgers Nuts. Lloydy’s namesake lines up here and between him and Gaby they couldn’t be more up and about. Should actually be able to lead this field off quite comfortably and seen as he is staying at the same trip, fitness should be no query. Enterprise Mia brings in the superior form and will be ultra hard to hold out with My Odette franking its last start third on Tuesday.

Race 6: Benchmark 65 (1200M)

When they bring them to town they are generally up to it and Bean Dancing has won two on the bounce and looks to make it three here. He will be sitting midfield and with the rail out, he should be able to peel off them late. He also gets the 3kg claimer, so he is in well here at the weights.

Race 7: Class 3 (1350M)

Got to back the truck up again here. After a close second to the flying Avolonte seven days ago, El Vencedor can surely get the job done today. Although he is drawn out in barrier eight, a lack of pace inside him should allow them to cross again and lead. If he gets the cheap sectionals and there is no bolter out of the pack again he will be winning this one.

Race 8: Benchmark 72 (1350M)

In the final event of the day I am happy to side with Lemon Duchess. It has won two on the bounce last start beating home Goldschlager. One of those wins came on the heavy and the other on the synthetic so the good track shouldn’t be any concern. Jasmine Cornish will be able to box seat behind Alderman and let down late to take this out. I have to be against Secret Tales here as she gets back and simply doesn’t go a yard first up.
