Doomben Preview 05/04/2021

Updated: Apr 5, 2021

We have Soft 7 conditions predicted but with all this rain coming surely it will be a heavy 48 at Doomben with the rail out eight metres. These ponies will need their swimmers on. In the first we turn to a horse that the mugs are fond of but does need to get the job done here. Isabella’s Spring comes to this with both good wet track form and handles the conditions, second to Deep Sceiva latest reads well for this.

In the second event we are taking a pass but big watch Alert and Ready to see if this filly can live up to the horse we think she can. She runs on well and once she is right she will be some horse.

The Gollan yard comes out in force in the third and we have settled on the Rodd/Gollan combination with Howdy Angel. This has been pretty fruitful of late and she will be sitting off them from the wide draw. Back in trip is a slight query but trusting the stable here.

With the weather incoming, this next race becomes a bit of a two horse war. We have settled on All To Do with the strong soft form looking to stand up here. The distance record is sublime and with the classy Huxtable on board and given it will lead from the draw we could be cashing cheques well before the others.

It is a tough affair in the fifth but we have settled on the Munce-trained Northern Woods here. He handles the heavy conditions and will be sitting just off the expected leader in Bold Inspiration. If he can camp just off them and clear out around the corner, he could be hard to hold out here with the rest of field battling the slop out the back.

In the sixth the short priced favourite gets in well but at Doomben you need to be drawn in and if the gelding Orbisyn gets any trouble from the draw it will spell trouble and Michael Rodd will be counting on it. Rock Amore will lead from the inside draw and is one from one on the heavy and flies fresh. We think an upset is on the cards here.

In the final two events the track will be a mess, it will be a guaranteed Heavy 10 and mud larks will be the order of the day. In the penultimate Rhyme Time draws the inside and will be saving ground with Iamican leading. Being two for two in the heavy conditions, swimmers will show their skills.

In the final event it is a race in two with Dio D’oro the proven wet tracker and Shijin the swimmer who leads taking it up out in front. If there is no pressure early Shijin has shown that she can lead and be strong late. Siding with Dio D’oro to get the job done with the inside wet track taking its toll on Shijin.

Stay dry mugs, it will be a wet one.
