Doomben Preview 16/06/2021

Well we have made it through an absolutely stunning Stradbroke Carnival and wow it was a day to remember. In the lead up to the greatest cup on earth we have an outstanding days racing at Doomben and when I say the greatest cup on earth I refer to the time honoured magic that the is the Ipswich Cup!

In the first event a few lightly raced types amongst a big field presents problems and with the rail out nine metres I think letting one race run sets us up for success later on. In the second however we can turn back to a bit of Stradbroke form with Uncommon James who beat home Dare to Share last start and came out and won a listed race at Eaglefarm on the weekend. Dare to Share looks a super bet here with that form and has to go on top for the Tilley Schweida combination.

A two year old maiden comes up next and it is time to get around the MUGS! We have our first metro runner here with Mystic Aroma and we are absolutely buzzing to have her in here. She comes to his off a few good trials and up against Nizhoni Lass who comes through the Uncommon James race mentioned earlier. She will probably go back but cannot tip against our filly so fingers crossed she runs a bottler for the connections.

It seems when Kris Lees needs a confidence builder he gives QLD racing a yell and shouts I’m bringing one up your way and he has done it again here. He brings Always on Show to town after some great performances around Easy Campese and Wicklow and with Queen Dazzler leading a bit of early toe should be sitting just in behind the pace. Craig Williams is hanging around after a cracking performance on the weekend and with confidence high he should go a long way to winning this one.

Its back to the well for the fifth race with the mugs landing back on Smart Meteor again. He is becoming possible one of the most frustrating horses going around, he looms to win and then just keeps missing and record speaks for itself. Similar trip here and up in class slightly with minimal weight relief and a decent draw if he cannot win here it will be time to move on. Relishes this track and trip and should be just off My Bluewings and go one better this time around.

Can Xerri finally win again after a couple of luckless runs against some quality opposition. Comes up the shorts here and from the inside will be on pace if not leading and will prove hard to beat. The key concern in the pace in the race there looks to be an abundance of leaders and if they all try and take it up probably the best ride in the hotly contested race wins so for that reason it’s a pass for the mugs.

A friend of the mugs has bought their horse back to Queensland and we get to see Ef Troop again after a decent stint in SA. He slots into a pretty smart field with Fisticuffs, Wudang Blade and the ever reliable Ditmas. The key with Ef Troop is he is off to Gollan now and the way this bloke can turn a horse around he could get one of the mugs into the Everest, the bloke is a genius. Draws out but they have booked Maloney which I think he means business. Will try to lead or stalk the pace and off a nice trial behind Jami Lady looks a great play at the price.

Speaking of Jami Lady she lines up here and wow back in a handicap against a bunch of real non winners this look a cracking recipe. Absolutely the form looks awful on paper but the race she was contesting last prep include the Magic Millions Qtis the listed Nudgee Quality so really nothing compared to a mid week handicap and she’s only carrying four kilos more than the bottom weight. Best bet of the day should be winning here for Baylee and the O’Dea and Hoysted yard.

The book end to the program is a classic class one and with that we get lightly raced runners, a field of four hundred and mugs with no idea so best of the luck for those in the get out stakes but it just appears a bridge too far here.
