Well we missed the EKKA holiday and MEKKA races last Wednesday and we also are in the lead up to the first group one down south and the beginning of this new ripper racing season that is upon us. Before all this though we have another belter card at the home of Brisbane Racing – Doomben, where miracles come true.
We start off with a maiden over the 1350M and while I fancy the career of Te Jina Rose this is a wide open race and frankly a simple pass for the mugs here.
Then we come to perhaps the most disappointing open handicap ever brought together. With all due respect to trainers and owners this race is a joke. We have Shijin listed at odds on in current markets and to be frank only a goose would be on at that price.
We will have to wait to the third event before we get to our first bet and here we look to the Gollan trained Frosty Mango. The mango was a fancied first up chance and went down to the fast finishing Mishani Sniper who came out of the weekend and ran pretty well against a superior field. Drawn in barrier nine with only one other speed influencer I am happy to be with here and the booking of Byrne is a big tick.
In the colts and geldings country music maiden plate there are a couple that are unraced and few that are one run into their prep. The way the boys get distracted I would want early speed and drawn in and Weneiri over the 900M against the aforementioned Frosty Mango did his best work late. Drawn super in barrier four here will be able to position in behind the favourite and when he gets last crack at them looks to be too smart.
Liza with a Zee was becoming a perennial non-winner but last prep got two wins at the Gold Coast and is now back in town. Gets the key claim here of KWT and from the barrier if she is not leading will be stalking the pace. This is her best trip with the 1200M seemingly a bridge too far, and in this field the $3 appears value.
Well Vitesse Francais and its drift made a mockery of the rules of punting last start and on that run seemingly was just too good. Sticks to a similar trip here and with Orman remaining on board you have to think he wins again.
In the penultimate event a runner from the Hoysted yard makes an appearance in Ocean Treaty. Has not run since back in October last year came through a nice trial in behind Howwonderfullifeis. Has won four from eight prior to the break and is 1/1 at the track. Looks like she will be able to get a nice sit from behind the leaders and with some pretty sharp late splits can see her winning at odds.
Well well well, the final event is an absolute mine field and for that reason the mugs are staying out. Good luck to the mugs out there leading into a cracking season of spring racing!
