We are spoilt with another mid week belter at Doomben and with Soft 5 conditions and the rail out 11 metres the entire course I would guess that on speed will probably be the place to be. In the lead up to the final Group 1 event of the Stradbroke Season we have run our eyes over the card and are looking to build a bank to launch into the weekends racing.
The kiwis have a pretty nice horse lined up here in the first event in Lebanese Trader. Has drawn barrier nine of nine for this race but with a early toe should be hunted across to lead from the draw. From about him is just too good to pass up. Both Millward and Derani came out and ran second and third last weekend at Ipswich only to be run down late and with the rail position and fitness on his side should be winning this and the $2.70 looks a nice price.
If you thought we would be leaving the second race alone as well you are sadly mistaken as we are launching again into the Jeff Dunn trained Geostorm. Comes up from two runs at the gold coast and knocked off just over a length with both starts at 1400M. The key here is the trip gets to 1660M and it is worth a play with fitness on his side and if Rikki gets him across out of the shoot start then should be able to run this field along at his leisure.
The market for the third has sided with the Gollan trained She’s an Eagle and while she is always running well for the connections sake she definitely needs to be winning tomorrow. It is a leave alone race for me as I cannot be taking the poison odds about the short priced favourite.
A 1110M class one comes around in the fourth race and there is a key raider that has come to town for this race. Dubai Star is up for the Neasham yard and gets the best front riding jockey in the nation. It has drawn in barrier 2 and will be leading the whole way. Up here from down south to beating horses home in her last start like Standoff and Divine Caprice looks pretty good form for this.
In the fifth we have an ex Melbourne horse battle with the short priced Goldifox taking on Heirborn amongst a host of local talent. It just looks a bit too tough for us and that is why we are steering clear. An interesting runner Puntura for the Patterson yard from across the ditch. Ran last in the Aytron race but before that built a picket fence in New Zealand so has to be respected off that.
Another stable shift here for my on topper in Tycoon Bella for Natalie McCall. Should take up the running and while she will not be alone out in front the booking of Maloney here is a pretty decent push she is ready to go. Comes of a trial which was fair but take on trust that it was just for the run and didn’t need a big blow. Has a very good distance record and handles the soft conditions as well if they do stick around.
The penultimate event is ultra competitive and will a very tough leg for quaddie players and not to be out done the final event is another cracker. With Mccovey Cove and Beachbreak sitting back off them and speed from Shijin this race sets up very nicely for East Asia. Should be sitting just in behind the speed from barrier 5 and the splits will come late and will be able to hold of the speedy back markers who will be coming late.
