Doomben Review 01/09/2021

After a week of racing dominated by Mornington Airbnb’s, quality local stars returning and Melbourne getting a taste of what is to come with Spring Racing finally here it was a crazy weekend at the track. In Brisbane we had stars return and this has led us in to this midweek card at Doomben which in all honesty is pretty ordinary.

In the first couple for the day there looks to be one maiden that does stand out and that is the pretty smart Sooblond. The three year old filly comes this off two nice second placings in behind Vienna Empress and then Frosty Mango who comes up later in the day. Only just went down in the last run so third up here and fitness at an all time high will be very hard to hold out. Should be leading from barrier six and will prove very hard to beat on that exposed form.

Race three presents a tough prospect for the us between the aforementioned Frosty Mango and the smart winner last start in Weneiri. If Gemelon Bolt and Frosty Mango take each upfront and Weneiri can box seat in behind I just think at the price and they way he attacked the line finishing strongest latest that he looks a bit smarter than these. He is a colt so could lose his mind for this race and be a complete forgive but at $6 I am happy to be with.

We have two mile races that follow the opening three and in all honesty neither of these present any real standout chances. I am keen to keep an eye on Royal Sheen in the fifth as he has been running on ok over the shorter trips this preparation and I think will get his best chance to win over the extended trip.

Leadership Spill comes back to town after the country kill last start at Beaudesert and in all honesty while he hasn’t been his superb best this preparation the prior 7th of eight last start looks good with Tramonto coming out and running super at the Goldmarket last Friday. We get a price and also a very cheap lead not missing out this time.

The penultimate event presents a familiar face in Hamlet Von Snitzel and while last start was awful and simply didn’t get the trip he has won over that trip before on this track the start prior. I am hesitant to jump in again but the race looks open and he draws barrier two so gets all the favours, last chance for him otherwise gone!

We end on a race with a horse from the Gollan camp in A River Somewhere that is measuring up and looks a really nice prospect and she is up against the disappointing last start from Azzareach which could be a big watch noting excuses that run. The last start win from the Gollan run was good but she still did a lot wrong to there is massive upside there. The draw does look to be a monster concern but she runs on well and if the breaks come up the rail and she doesn’t need to be posted seven wide around the corner she will be winning.
