Well after absolutely railing the bookies Saturday - we return to the scene of the crime! Bean wants to know if Niccanova was running again?
The weather has opened up, the showers are here, the rail is out 9m (+3.5m Saturday) we should be in for a soft track looking for them to be coming wide later in the day.
We start the day with a group of girls looking for that first big win. Yesmeena is up for the Lees Yard, Charm Bracelet finished ahead of Reality who looks to have some form and Princess Tenko returns for the Schweida/Orman combination after not being seen at the trials. You know that what that means Mugs, Princess Tenko dicks in. Watch play for the Mugs in Race 1, keep the powder dry and move on to Race 2.
It's now the boys turn and I can hear QLD punters morning cringe as Kipchoge lines up again after missing the placings as a 1.30F. Frontman resumes first up for the Freedman's with pretty impressive Victorian form around Lightsaber, with Byrne booked it's a strong push, but one the Mugs are keen to go back to the well on one here in Vantan Express. The son of Golden Slipper winner Vancouver Was only just starting to wind up last start for the O'dea Hoysted stable and think the cut in the ground, up to 1200m is exactly what this horse is looking for. Barrier 2, he'll do no work, Kipchoge will go forward from a wide gate and be vulnerable and I'd rather be wrong about Frontman instead of plunging into the shorts.
Race 3 brings us to a Class 1 over the 1400m and gives a few horses a bit more chance to settle into their run. For those reasons The Mugs think Yourjokingme Right gets a dream run from Barrier 7. Last start just got caught wide and started doing some good work late behind a smart one in Miss Canada. The wetter the better for this son of Foxwedge.
Race 4 looks to almost Race of the day! A BM85, 1400m. Sea Raider, Jay Jay D'ar all dropping back from Saturday grade, Safado would've won by 65 legs if he wasn't scratched from Ipswich. But how can you get a read on this market, Sea Raider disappointing last start, Safado scratched day of. Too many unknowns, even for Mugs like us.
Race 5 we have the Criminal Defense Handicap over 1845m. If you've jumped off this boy, read on because we're going to convince you to stay.
1845m, tick, soft track, tick, A BIG OPEN EAGLE FARM TRACK, TICK.
...One last chance
Class 2 Plate's get Mugs excited, One Shy Ruby is that enigma horse so I'm excited for big fans of Mugs Punting Lynny and Luttsy to see her go around again. Unfortunately for them we're playing tactics here, the Butterworth stable is in a handy purple patch so we're getting up and around Hamilton Hill. We know exactly where she'll be in the run, leading. Has come into this one off the back of a trial and narrow defeat first up so leads us to believe she's come back super. Great each way play.
Pizonie? What's happened this prep? The old Pizonie would demolish this field, the old Pizonie wouldn't line up on a Wednesday! We can't back him, Can't back against him, hope he finds his best. #Scarred
Again Mugs they've made it a tricky last. A few of these looking for a lot further? See Marie returns but best racing beyond the 2000m? Waller's here with Mann Of Sinn, Wowsers just hasn't struck form? Another sit out job to come home with. Look for something hitting the line over the mile as a Mugbooker.
