Eagle Farm | July 3

Back to headquarters and after two days of drizzle here in Brisbane fair to say the fields might be a little smaller than expected. We will be racing on a soft 7 track with we have the rail out nine metres for the entire course and the first race to jump at 11.58 am.

Race 1: MAIDEN (1000M)

Trial star from the Gollan yard Deep Vegas with Angela Jones is the go here, if it handles the track it should simply be winning.

Race 2: Handicap (1400M)

Hard to split the top two in the market here but with the Riccarton form around Cliodhna Maeve she goes on top with Michael Rodd on and the low barrier.

Race 3: MAIDEN (1400M)

Ain’t Nobody was a price first up at the Sunshine Coast and just never got out of second gear there. Ryan Maloney jumps aboard here and from a kinder draw, longer trip and the give in the track he should relish the big Eagle Farm straight.

Race 4: MAIDEN (1600M)

Keen to pass on the maiden mile in the slop.

Race 5: Benchmark 70 (1200M)

Thought there was a bit of value here with a fair bit of unexposed form on tracks with a bit of moisture in them. Good Lieutenant comes up here for Billy Healey and with four starts on a heavy track for a win and three minor placings and coming off a nice trial win he can make it a winning start in Queensland at odds.

Race 6: Class 6 (1400M)

Another impossible race but keen to take on the favourite here who is one of mine in Weigall Tiger. Military Gambler gets ground to suit again and with the booking of James Orman and a nice run in the Eyeliner and run prior behind Gringotts if he can be just of the pace the greys in the wet may be a chant we are all singing.

Race 7: Class 2 (1300M)

Was keen to play this race but with half the field out happy to let is pass us by.

Race 8: Class 2 (1300M)

We were very keen on Deep Respect last start and got a pretty average steer to just miss. Keen today to take him on with the wet track and siding with Set to Shine from the Gollan camp. She has been super in two runs this preparation with form behind her in Spirit Queen franked last weekend at Ipswich running well. She should sit just outside the lead and if she can skip away it may leave Deep Respect with too much to do.

Race 9: Benchmark 70 (1600M)

Pretty tough race to the end the day but even after a few starts this preparation I think Sebring Girl for the Kendrick yard can surprise here. The form out of her last start has been solid with Under the Cap winning in Rocky and Alcyone a very nice third.
