Well what a stellar carnival we had at both major metropolitan tracks and back to Eagle Farm for this weeks midweek event. The rail is out 8 metres and the way they were running on Saturday I am guessing drawn wide is going to be the place to be. In the first even we have a Class 1 plate for the two year old’s and while a few have potential prospects going forward I won’t be playing early as it just looks to even.
Finnicky looks a nice bet in the second event after that second up run and fitness on her side she will be primed for this. The draw also helps because the best ground will be outside rail high fiving the crowd as you get to the lead. Third different jockey combination and El-issa is riding Iron Saint, so make of that what you will.
Total recall should lead them off in the third and while Watch the Cat was super in its first up run comes to this and with further fitness and a great run down the outside should be winning this. Also boasts a super second up record and while we have tipped two shorts to start the day they should get us off on the right foot and build that balance.
The fourth race loaded with three year old maidens and a huge sixteen horse field is way too complicated for us lowly mugs so we will be moving on from that quickly and pass by the fifth too as this class two handicap has brought horses from all up and down the east coast race tracks and is another no bet race for us.
We are blessed with a benchmark 72 for race six and one of our blackbookers comes in here in Spirit House and after the way they were running on Saturday this mare should get her chance. Was beaten 0.2 of a length by Goldsborough who is very classy and with speed on here over this short trip and drawn in the middle Maloney has a lot of options.
In the penultimate we are settling again on a blackbooker who I think the Gollan yard have a pretty high opinion of. Auron started the shorts at Ipswich last prep and was disappointing at the Sunshine Coast 1st run this prep but is now at full fitness and draws to once again given Maloney options. With the best closing splits of this field he should be too smart for them.
Buzzer Beater is going to round out the day for us and we are hoping to land a bit of value in the last. Comes off two wins and a sixth on Ipswich Cup day to the ultra impressive At Witz End. Byrne jumps aboard and with a bit of early pace he should be just off the leaders in the run which when the run presents will provide the opportunity to unleash that turn of foot.
