Here we are Mugs! The absolute PINNACLE of #StradbrokeSeason. The good 'orses are up and about, the infield will be absolutely ballistic, go get ya Berocca now!
The track will play in the Good/Soft range and with the rail out .5+ we think it should play even to a degree, but with a 300m straight it's certainly advantageous to be up there on the bend.
You can listen to the Mugs full preview below:
Race 1 kicks us off with the 2YO's at handicap conditions. It's fair to say Derani absolutely did no one any favours coming from the clouds last start but brings form that can almost tie in every runner here. 2 starts back Derani was plugging away for a brave 4th behind Minto's Paradise who lines up your outsider here. Coming back in the class from The Phoenix (taken out by Volcanic Rock) it's clear the bookies have no idea! It should be an on pace affair with Millward and Minto's Paradise looking to set up a solid tempo. Grab ya dartboard, it seems like that in the opener.
Races 2 & 3 we get the ultimate spill over the Winter Carnival. A collective 30 horses take their place, however every pair of Mug eyes will be on Incentivise in Race 3. The newly acquired equine specimen for Brae Sokolski goes around at Winx odds. Perhaps eyes bigger than Lloyds when he see Rum on tap will be Peter Moody, he’ll acquire the son of Shamus Award a potential cups assault? Hmmmmm #TBAFORM
Race 5 brings us our first of the listed affair and with Amish Boy headed to the Eye Liner, this race is wide open. Palladas has the form on the board, finishing within a lip to Ayrton who's then done some pretty good things according to the daily Ben Dorries article. The hype in the race is the unbeaten Palaisipan, the Mugs caught up with Muncey throughout the week, he simply told us "We aint going to Ipswich for an Almond Latte" They'll more than likely be at opposite ends of the field in what shapes to be an incredible form race going forward.
Race 6 Desert Lord returns - Take with that what you will - Meow
It's main even time with the Chris Waller Ipswich Cup and the Eye Liner Stakes. So You Place versus Humbolt Current, Luke Dittman versus Craig Williams. The great game.
The Eye Liner shapes up to be a belter edition this year. We have honest Group 1 formlines into what has now become a target race for many trainers.
Amish Boy opened your favourite and with early money for Axe, those two seem to be fighting out favourtism. You've got Axe who finished a lip within Tofane last start who apparently ran a good race last week. Amish Boy brings the Ayrton formlines who was Stradbroke favourite for a very long time for some reason. Amish Boy has won 1 from 15, Axe has 3 of his last 5. Outside the two favourites it's the ultimate cat list. In market order, Boomsara, RIght Or Wrong and Snitch haven't won a race between them in over a year and at set weights it can definitely expose some class queries with a lot of these runners. Nonetheless we hope Tom 'Flog' Waterhouse is getting 15 black rats hurled at him from the infield because that's all that grub deserves before the Gai Waterhouse classic in the last! Cross everything from Boomtown Lass to get the win
