Writer's pictureMugs Punting

Ipswich | February 2

Well if that quality card at Bowen yesterday didn’t get the punting juices flowing we are treated to once again perhaps The Mugs favourite track, a track that needs no introductions, Bundamba Racecourse. We are running on a Good 4 with the rail in the true for the entire course with the first race to jump at 1:38pm AEST.

Race 1: MAIDEN Plate (1350M)

Well the O’Dea yard have come up the shorts here and while she should go close I think the quote is unders. Then you have the 7 start maiden in Shaluna who was the short priced favourite on debut and has been fairly ordinary since. Too tough lets move on.

Race 2: MAIDEN Plate (1100M)

Another maiden plate with a couple of first starters one of which is named Good Bean and in the spirit of Mug Bean at the shorter priced quote might be worth a dabble. Other than that it’s a pretty impossible event to dissect.

Race 3: Benchmark 68 (800M)

There will be plenty of pace from two of the fancied runners here with Syd’s Footprints and Princess Bojack the latter will not mind a bit of rain either if it comes overnight. Trip the light also in the market and that is followed with Ask Audrey coming to town from a nice will up the mountain. Princess Bojack comes after a 16 week layoff and prior to that was in behind Glorious Ruby, Stellar Magic and Tiger Heart which is far superior form to most of these and with a sound first up record will be hard to hold out.

Race 4: Benchmark 68 (1200M)

Befana is one of Mozza’s absolute classic so if you are with him then you will be having a dabble here. It is pretty open otherwise and King’s Rule looks the overs to me. Was only four lengths off Big Bad Bruce last start and prior to that split Rebel Salute and Sing for Violet in testing conditions. Goes well this track and is always ready first up.

Race 5: Benchmark 65 (1200M)

This race depends on one thing, will they let Harlequin Field control it out in front? If they do he should win again. I think though if Rebel Salute can be close enough in the run and we get that precipitation that I am hoping for then he can win. Excels at the track and love this trip, will go very close.

Race 6: Benchmark 70 (1666M)

I think Alatar is a standout here, the draw obviously at Ipswich is always a concern but with a small nine horse field he should be able to offset the draw. Is one from one at this track and Du Plessis sticking with the drop in weight gives him a serious chance to pinch another win. Will be off the leaders in the but will be motoring home.

Race 7: Seven Class 1 Plate (1666M)

Between the two last start winners Naughty Harry and Atlantic Edge it is hard to split them but if any horse can it will definitely be Rations. They are slowly lifting Tom Melbourne’s 2nd place medal off and are about to award it to Rations. Time for a drink and enjoy the flashing second place getter.

Race 8: Class 2 Handicap (1200M)

Be sure to catch the start of the last race of the day because it will be that quick it will be over in a flash. They all absolutely bolt along the Snitzel, Yourjokingme Right and Maybe the Best so who has the best form lines? Well from Queensland it is definitely Yourjoking me Right coming in behind Capri of Tuffy last start solidifies that but Maybe the Best up from Victoria to the astute Vandyke team with Jim Byrne aboard is a great bet here. Should be winning.
