Australia Day has rolled around again and with listed racing and Blue Diamond previews down at Caufield we are treated to a beautiful nine race card at Royal Ipswich with a few races dedicated to superstar sprinter Brave Smash. We are running on a Good 4 with the rail out 5m for the entire course with the first race to jump at 12:48pm AEST.
Race 1: MAIDEN Plate (2550M)
Bit of form lines up here and with the favourite Monaco Deluxe coming through the same race as Power Punch and gaining a weight swing should be hard to hold out here. Sammy Collett jumps on and that should be enough to get the job done here at the shorts.
Race 2: MAIDEN Handicap (1200M)
First starter for Kelly Schweida has been smacked in the betting and with Tegan Harrison making her return aboard Kerrisdale it’s a pass from the mugs, but keen to see the debutant.
Race 3: MAIDEN Handicap (1200M)
Could be a very big day for Collett. Jumps on the speedy Gollan runner here in A Call From Heaven and with the blinkers being applied first time and a more relaxed run in transit should be able to if not lead position up behind them and be too smart late. Looks like a tick off the maiden job here for the Gollan yard then will be straight back to town.
Race 4: MAIDEN Handicap (1200M)
Another first starter for Schweida here and with blinkers first time they will look to take it up I am sure. Roman Heir looks to take it up from out wide with Hoofprint and with a few of the fancied chances back in the ruck happy to stay out of this one.
Race 5: Benchmark 65 (1200M)
An average field here but there are a few that have come off some decent form in particular Dejanova who has two wins this preparation. Beauchamp leads the market but I think Coup is the overs here for the Nolan yard. Comes through a quality BM75 running in behind Really Discreet and while he does pick up a bit of weight the claim will help. Should be leading or in front two pairs and will be hard to stop from there.
Race 6: QTIS 3YO MAIDEN Handicap (1200M)
Absolute lottery enjoy the prizemoney bonuses.
Race 7: Benchmark 78 (1350M)
This race is Mix versus the field and as he was nominated then scratched from Saturday where he lined up favourite hard to see him getting beat here. Should be in the first couple with Princess Tenko leading them off, those two will be the quinella but really should take the exacta Mix into Princess Tenko.
Race 8: Benchmark 60 (2550M)
This is a pretty tough race with a lot of out of town form coming in and the trip isn’t commonly raced either. Likeabeel comes through a 1900M BM 55 at Kilcoy (where you never run on) and after settling 10th in the run came storming to finish a length fourth and the extra trip here suits. It is the overs in a wide open race.
Race 9: Class 2 Plate (1100M)
Asherla comes up the shorts here but rightly so. Ran in behind Rubiquitous and Self Indulgent who has since come out and franked the form out of that race on Saturday. Cannot dive in at that price but simply should be winning.
