Ipswich | May 22

The Bundamba race track is getting a fair workout at the midweeks in Brisbane, clearly they don’t want the mugs taking over town. We will be racing on a soft 5 track with the rain from last weekend and we have the rail out six metres for the entire course and the first race to jump at 11.59am.

Race 1: MAIDEN (1100M)

Tough race to start the day but with three really good trials leading in and the in form Craig Williams on I am happy to have a throw at the stumps early with Mehretu.

Race 2: MAIDEN (1200M)

Happy to pass here, no real strong push from any runners here.

Race 3: MAIDEN (1350M)

Not keen the third either, plenty better bets later on in the card.

Race 4: Class 3 (1100M)

Low key cracker class three here and there are some really good horses going around who are genuine Saturday grade. Barassi is the short priced favourite and valid but I simply cannot go past the unbeaten Majestic Boom. Drawn well for this, and at the $5 quote happy to take on the odds on pop.

Race 5: Benchmark 78 (1690M)

Back the king jockey in here, Craig jumps aboard Almairac from barrier two and with some quality southern form and a pass mark for a trial he can lead this lot or sit just off them and should prove too classy first up with hopes of bigger races down the track.

Race 6: Class 6 (1200M)

Well we were with him last start and this does look way more competitive but Pizarro has to be the one here, even with the poor second up record. Cottee, Kanazawa will all be there abouts and Allez Zou a blowout but take the short price favourite with the weight drop the key.

Race 7: Benchmark 65 (1200M)

It is a good time of year when the good jockeys come to town and while James is our king when Craig Williams jumps aboard you have to take notice. Within Reason will be much better for the first up run and can go one better here, keen to see where Wahine Galaxy gets to from the gate but she was brave first up trying to round them up.

Race 8: Open Handicap (2180M)

Stick and pick, it’s a simple game and that is why we are with Hiyaam Proud, Bazinga last start and can win again here. Ryan Maloney picks up the ride but with the soft track, second up run this preparation and the map all in his favour happy to stick with. The kiwi horse is a scary prospect but barrier eighteen = death.

Race 9: Benchmark 72 (2180M)

Aldeenaary finally gets out to a more suitable trip but the barrier and the last start have me really concerned even with Craig aboard. I am siding with a genuine Ipswich galloper in Shezadandi who broke clear at top of the straight last start and was a sitting duck but held them all off. She picks up a few kilos but can close out what looks be a cracking day at Bundamba race track.
