Marge marge the rains are ere! We had a bit of a downpour yesterday morning and reports are that Royal Ipswich is a heavy 8. So we are looking for mud larks and horses that like to be on the speed at that will be the recipe for this card.
The form around this maiden while exposed doesn’t give much of a push either way and for that reason we move straight passed it and race two as its an even more lot of unexposed gallopers. In the third there are a few nicer types going around and there is a bit of value here. Hallsidehankypanky is not only the best named horse in the race it also has the greatest combination of colours on her silks so that's why she goes on top for the mugs…. In all seriousness though over the 800M she is a specialist only missing the place once with five wins. She also is three from six on the soft and if we get any sun early in the day it will be a drying track throughout. The claim from Zac Lloyd gives her a super chance at nice odds.
The fourth is an impossible contest and these distance trips at Ipswich can present some really interesting speed maps. With the track in the soft and heavy range its simply a pass here in what looks a really tough affair. If you do have to have a bet though Chief Command for Fradd has some form at the trip and does handle the sting out so is a nice value play at $14.
Emergent comes to this as favourite and from the draw does look hard to hold out. There is one for Vandyke who has had a victory at Otaki over the 1400M and gets a heavy track here. Comes through two average trials but perhaps needs the sting out so I am forgiving of both of those. Astute stable and good be a superb placing here, happy to take on the odds on pop with Wheels.
Scottish Prince one here last start and was four wide around the corner and drawn in barrier four with the deadly KWT steering over a similar trip looks hard to hold out. The query here is obviously the ground but perhaps he has found the track and trip and will keep winning here. Happy to be on at the juicy odds after a pretty tough win last start.
The penultimate event presents an interesting one and I have sided with the poorly drawn Phantom Court. She’s come through two lead up runs with a nice 5th in behind Eloquently followed up by a poor 8th in behind Acrobatic but the key is the ground, she needs the sting out and finally get it. Barrier 12 is a slight query but over the 1710M she should be able to find a spot and she has the killer Kilner on board so I think is deserved favourite and will be hard to beat here.
In the final event I am leaning the way of Shooting Roses over the short trip but with a lack of exposed form on this kind of track with the sting out I am inclined to save our pennies for a monster card of Group 1 racing coming up.
