Ipswich Preview 27/10/2021

After an unbelievable couple of weeks following on from the Caufield Cup and Cox Plate we move to another premier track but this time up in sunny Queensland and for this mid week event we have the pleasure of heading out to Royal Ipswich or Bundamba racecourse for the locals.

A well trialled up Gollan runner Ashgrove lines up in the first and was backed for an absolute fortune first up the Sunshine Coast and didn’t measure up. Will be off them in the run and does draw barrier 10 but if Orman can get him a few pairs closer with that turn of foot than he will be able to go very close.

Happy to leave the second maiden of the day and move on to race three where there looks a nice bet in a small field in There You Are. Last start was 4/4 starters in a class 5 at the Gold Coast 1st up on the heavy ground which would not have suited. This was in behind the really smart Gogol who was just run down late in the last race on Saturday by Contemptuous. Will improve if the first run didn’t sting the legs too much and from the pole should be able to force a few to do a bit of work early to cross him and should be strong through the line.

If the Ritz doesn’t win the fourth I will be stunned, it’s a not be race at the price but could be a nice multi banker and he should be leading or just in behind them and with the Costa polish and strike rate I don’t think you’ll be let down here.

Volunteer broke the maiden the start before last and while it was impressive the run since was poor and cannot simply have it at $3.60 in this market albeit with questionable form. Loveisabattlefield is 1/1 track and distance and from the draw should be able to dictate terms out in front here. Gets to the right trip here and the combination of Stephanie and TJ is hitting at a 37% win rate.

The penultimate gives us another odds on prospect who is building that picket fence. I think the key here is the form around the last race has stacked up. Go Wandji came out and brained them last start and that gives heaps of merit to Festival Prince. Draws super in barrier three and will be just in behind the speed and will be miles to good in the final 100.

We wrap up the day with the time honoured Chris Waller middle distance and that is reason enough for us to wrap it up and look forward to a huge weekend of racing coming up.
