Why does everyone refer to Rockhampton as Rocky and not The Hamptons? Oh, I think I know why! Anyway, a handy little midweek fill-up before International Mugs Day tomorrow, so let's rip in!
Race 1: BM65 Handicap (1500 METRES)
Am I missing something here? Bold Smuggler is currently $2; unless this is (another) setup the Mugs haven't been told about, he should just be winning as he leaves the gates. Our Turn Now to take up the running, and Georgie to stalk and be too classy late. Last start comes out of Saturday form. Castillian may be an end-of-prep run Saturday, and Volcanic Love (is an absolute nonny; don't tell Lloydy) but started favorite in a TAB Highway last at Randwick—surely that's good enough.
Race 2: OPEN Handicap (1100 METRES)
It's a race in three according to the market. I could tip a boxed trifecta, but we'll probably be losing money there too.
Janean failed last start out bush as a $2 pop (stewards report didn’t give us much, lol), and you’ve got apprentices everywhere else—no bet.
Race 3: QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Handicap (1300 METRES)
Ahhhh, now we're talking! 3YO maidens!
Woodstock Rock has had two chances to break the maiden and just doesn't want to put the head down when it counts. Big Bad John Wigginton has a debut here, Southaven. He has had two good trials leading up to his debut and trialed against some smart horses earlier this year. There’s been some early market support, and he should settle midfield from the draw for a good run in transit.
Race 4: BM65 Handicap (1300 METRES)
I'm half potting Your Too Good in Race 1, so I’m keen to take on that formline with Last Ditch Effort. Today has to be Sennaprost's day. Gets the 3kg claimer on to get in super at the weights. In his last two starts, he has run into Hellish, Humour Me, and Biencoolen— all of which would be $1.15 here. The difference today is, they ain't here! Barrier 3 in the 1-1? Yes, please.
Race 5: Maiden Handicap (1100 METRES)
Bigcat had a very late 'blinkers on' gear change last start. He went way too hard from the wide gate and was a sitting duck late; that won't happen here today. But at $1.90, just chuck it in a Mug Multi. I can't tip a shorty for you fine Mugs—I'll save that for Saturday.
Race 6: BM60 Handicap (1100 METRES)
Tell ya what, check out Joey D’or's debut run; it may be the hottest form maiden of all time from Rosehill. Unfortunately, that means diddly-squat and has no chance here.
Devil Devil on top by default; may be a multi with the race before. Bold and Smooth hasn't turned on a light for a long time and probably wants a soft track if anything. Jump, lead, WIN.
Race 7: 0 - 55 Handicap (1600 METRES)
On a day with not a lot of value, nothing changes here.
Aleaco and Bo Bo Beware will run the quinella; there's no doubt about that. They bring the same form coming into the race with not a lot between them. Aleaco gets the nod today. He gets a 3.5kg swing on the last time they met at Yeppoon, should jump cleaner from barrier 1, and just be in front of Bo Bo winding up late. For those reasons, it's a #MUSTWIN.
