THE LORD OF THE NORTH IS BACK
Remember that time I won our King of The North tipping comp? Well, that's why I'm doing THIS.
Anyway, today could be the easiest day ever for tipping winners, or absolute scenes as $1.15 pops go down left, right, and center... It is North QLD Racing, so I'm going with the latter.
Race 1: QTIS Two-Year-Old Handicap (1100 METRES)
Wowee, a four-horse QTIS race to start with.
Honourbefore Glory was gifted a victory on debut, went around at $1.45, and won like a $1.45 shot should. They're asking us to take $1.20 today!
For the sake of a bet in a four-horse field, we'll have a wager on Saraqiel. Its trial wasn’t anything special on the clock, but Wazza just let this Flying Artie gelding work through his gears, pick up the other horses, and go to the line untouched. Luna Ready showed good early muster in her trial; she might serve it up to the shorty, setting it up for Saraqiel to come over them late and burst a few bubbles.
Race 2: Three-Year-Old Handicap (1100 METRES)
Onto the three-year-olds, and this looks like a race in three! I asked my mate Lloydy for a Rocky tip, and he just sent me a d*** pic, so I'm guessing that's the bet.
Ask Me Mate trialed super ahead of a returning Shadowen (Hundreds and Thousands maiden winner) and did it in slick time on the day. The last time he clashed with Power of Katie, he gave her 4kg and had her measure there, and I think he has Run Away Renee’s measure again here. Ask Me Mate on top.
Race 3: Maiden Plate (1100 METRES)
Dream Step should be breaking his maiden here today, but you’re better off hearing that from a paid tipping service.
Race 4: OPEN Handicap (1100 METRES)
SNEAKY little race here! Excited to see Hellish return, who's proved to be a winning machine so far... BUT... 0/5 first up. Is that the chink in the armor? At $1.30, I’m happy to say yes and have a play on King Jester at the value.
Two starts ago, he won at big odds, beating some quality horses in Bold Type and Smart Image. Murphy cuddled him behind the speed and left it late with a short sprint to get over them. Last start, he was brought to the outside, and his head was more off chops than Bazinga at Retro’s Surfers Paradise.
There is speed here with Hellish and Just Super, so from barrier 3, he’ll get his chance to sit behind the speed, use the rail to keep him solid in the run, and maybe be saved for one last crack over the tiring leaders.
Having a fill-up? Get yourself a HAT.
Race 5: Class 3 Handicap (1100 METRES)
Again, hunting the value here. Chase The Ace is always thereabouts—two wins and six placings from 11 starts. He’s got good early speed, can use barrier 1, and his trial was good behind Divine Purpose, who starts short in a BM65 later today. Could run a big race at each-way odds in a very open contest.
Race 6: Class 6 Plate (1500 METRES)
A THREE-HORSE WAR.
The fact that there’s $1.60 around for Acrophobic in a three-horse field is a gift from the heavens. It has 10 rating points on Brasco and only has to give it 3kg, plus 20+ points on The Wolf while giving it 4.5kg.
I like Brasco, but he needs tempo. Acrophobic should just control this out in front—unless Tahlia tries a Pride of Jenni.
Race 7: BENCHMARK 65 Handicap (1300 METRES)
We get to see the North QLD re-debut of Divine Purpose here. Went down to VIC to watch a few games of AFL, I guess, because it wasn’t there to be a racehorse.
It’s a tough call for a mug not to have a bet, but with 3/4 fancied runners first up with 60kg+, my arm is forced.
Race 8: 0 - 55 Handicap (1400 METRES)
What a low way to blast out here in the last. Boyfriend Material comes out of maiden class into a handicap, and let’s be clear—J. Huxtable won that race last start, not the horse.
One we’re going to have a crack at is Mr. Grey, THE BIG GREY. Satherley sticks, and maybe, just maybe, they found the key to him by riding him quiet last start. He settled in the back half of the field, absolutely wound up, and should’ve almost won if he hadn’t run up half the field.
The 1400m will be a bit hotter from a pace perspective, and from barrier 6, he may not have a choice but to settle off the speed again.
