Rockhampton Preview 1/06/21

As Ned Stark once said, Winter Is Coming. Well, hate to break it to you Ned, but it's here, and what better way to start the month of June than with a seven race card at Royal Rockhampton. We are on a Good 4 with the rail out 6m, so expect it to be hard to make too much ground and good times to be run all afternoon.

The 2YOs do battle in the opener, and although a big drifter in the market, we are keen to back Fire King at start number four. Olivia Cairns' stable is going well at the moment, and this fella has placed in both runs this time in behind smart ones, Isis Carmella and Kashkar. Drawn six, he should get the one-one and be going on witht he job.

Another small field in the second, but again, we're ready to have a bet - common theme today, we're betting in every race! Hangry tried to burn the candle at both ends last time out in a very similar race but was just nosed out in the shadows of the post by Rostrum. Adam Sewell is going to have to make sure this filly jumps well from barrier nine, but providing she does and she finds the front again, she might just be too speedy for her rivals.

Dr Neigh failed to finish first-up, and then flashed home into second in a competitive 3YO race at Mackay two back, before justifying favouritism to win by half a length over 1200m last time out. The Tim Cook-trained galloper rises to 1400m which should suit, and from barrier two with Ash Butler on board, we expect he gets a cushy run on the speed.

It wouldn't be a Rocky meeting without a #WiggoWinner, so the fourth presents as a perfect time to get that going. Trump Me came from behind to win nicely at Townsville last start under Wiggo, and now faces similar opposition albeit up in weight. Providing he doesn't get too far out of his ground from barrier eight, we are confident he can be going back-to-back.

Forget the Oakleigh Plate, Doomben 10,000, The Everest and the King Stand, this 1050m Open Hcp is a deadset cracker. A field of eight, we could easily make a case for six of them, with Gypsy Toff bringing Listed Doomben form, Lepreezy with her exceptional track record and form around Stradbroke runner, Master Jamie, Better Reflection and her Listed Doomben form, Aleysa's Dream who comes off aa last start second to Goldsborough at the Sunshine Coast and Chezblack who loves 1050m at Rocky. Anyway, Gypsy Toff gets in here with 57kg, has drawn the rails and has only one loss to her name at this track and trip from six goes. She will stalk the speed and let her class prevail in this ripping race.

Craig Smith's Hezhome comes off a second to Last Chance in the Amateur's Bracelet, and now only rises 1.5kg back to Class 6 company. Drawn well in barrier two, he should be able to stalk the speed - and there doesn't look like there is much of it - and peel out in the final furlong to let down with his strong final burst, hehe. That Bracelet form looks superior.

The final race of the day sees Olivia Cairns with a big chance of book ending the card, when she saddles up Yuan Fen. The last-start winner put paid to his rivals at Mackay over 1100m and now steps up to 1200m which will suit him down to the ground. Drawn ideally in barrier three, the son of Artie Schiller should be just behind the leaders and finishing over the top of them.
