The big wet has returned to all parts of the country including Brisbane where we have had the Ipswich meeting transferred to the Sunshine Coast synthetic surface and boy oh boy are we excited for this! We have nine races to sift through on a big mid-week card. The rail is in the true position for the entire course and the first race is set to jump at 11:58am AEST.
Race 1: MAIDEN (1400M)
We need to get our Mugs gear out here and cheer on Like a Lark for Mozza. He will hold a position from the inside gate and be in the front couple. He had a really nice finish on him last start, so the rise to 1400m will suit. Starts the shorts but should be too good here.
Race 2: Maiden (1600M)
This next race over the mile has a fair bit of pace, and it is likely to be a leader bias track today with the kick up. Happy to pass here in what is a pretty even field.
Race 3: Class 1 (1600M)
The form here for Tee Amici looks pretty good for this race. Was poor last start on a Soft 6 at the Gold Coast but prior over the 1700M was a four length second to Majestic Colour. Draws barrier 10 here and should shoot forward from the gate. With fitness on its side, he should have them running along and be able to hold off the fast finishing Ronlee Gal.
Race 4: Benchmark 65 (1100M)
There are three here that could all be winning this one and I am happy to stay out. Two of the fancied runners have only had one start and onto synthetic it has to be a watch race to see who handles it better.
Race 5: Class 2 (1400M)
Well Enterprise Mia is the red hot favourite here but as per the first race we are here to support another Mugs runner in Gaby’s horse Gauntlet. He will be camped off the favourite and if it is taken on by the roughie of the race in Ben Hur, then Gauntlet might be able to turn and burn them late.
Race 6: Benchmark 72 (1600M)
Alderman is generally just a bet anywhere where he can lead relatively uncontested and once he gets to 1600M. He gets both of those boxes ticked today, and with a field really lacking any pace or relative quality, if Wendy Peel rates him well then the $6 on offer is an absolute spoil.
Race 7: Benchmark 70 (2150M)
Just simply a no-bet race here. Five runners, Go Milllo should lead but I will just be staying away.
Race 8: Class 5 (1200M)
While this trip is definitely short of General Dubai’s best it is fair to say that he is also a fair bit classier than this lot. First up last prep, he was beating home the likes of Bullfinch and co, which is very nice form lines for this. The Lauren Abbott-trained galloper has a perfect record at the track and he should be able to camp just off Parko and get the chocolates here for the Mugs.
Race 9: 0 - 68 (1100M)
If you are after a get out in the last Mugs, you are on your own here. I cannot catch any of these in the last of the day but I would be leaning Hodgson’s way with a predicted leader bias all day.
