The surf is certainly not up today as we don the poncho’s and wade through the waters to find a Heavy Sunny Coast track. The rail comes back to the true after being out 10m last Sunday, so we should see an even day’s racing.
The weather will certainly scare some trainers away today and that’s what we’ve seen here in Race 1 with three of the fancies saved for another day. We’re going to have a play here in Race 1 and it’s with the flying Thorton/O’Dea Hoysted who combine here with Too Hot to Hold. This combination saluted with the smart Secret Tales yesterday at Eagle Farm and with little heavy form to be desired in this field, this daughter of Sizzling seems to do her best work with some cut out of the ground. She looks to get a dream run behind the favourite and Steph can do the rest.
There are two words that just don’t mix in Racing, Maiden and Heavy. With that being said, we won’t be sitting on the sidelines as we find a nice one in Race 3.
Stuart Kendrick is striking at 20% the last 30 days here at the Sunny Coast and he saddles up Nicks over the 1400m against the Fillies and Mares. She did everything right first up but just looked to be in the wrong part of the track and fitness caught her out late. She will benefit immensely from that run and will see it all unfold in front of her here and be able to produce late. KWT is absolutely flying here and looks to be a ‘Battle of the Apprentices’ with Perfect Impression mapping to get a similar run.
The Colts & Geldings line up here in the Wimmers Soft Drink Class 1 Handicap. The Mugs will be thirsty by this stage and think it’ll be a drink break. Danezel looks to have a tricky run from Barrier 1 but seems to do his best work at the Sunshine Coast. Bambalam looks go get a good run behind the speed and comes out of an Ipswich start behind the smart River Rocket, however the exposed form in the field leaves much to the imagination.
You can’t keep a good Mug down and we’ve found one at nice price here in the Heathcote trained Classic Pearl. She has yet to miss a placing on a heavy deck and will hardly know herself being able to roll along against this field. 2200m back to 1600m would usually be a concern but with these conditions and fitness on her side we think she can pinch it.
The Reality of last prep‘s PTSD will kick in pretty quick here with the Anderson trained Gelding lining up in the red. Beaten 2/2 last prep as favourite behind the likes of I Am Thirty and Boomnova it’s his race to lose, but we don’t want our hard earned on here.
Interesting race here in Race 7; Queen Sweeper was scratched from yesterday’s Eagle Farm card to line up here and Bombay Rocket was disappointing on debut for the Vandyke stable last start. There doesn’t look like a lot of speed here, so it does look like Let’s Cheer Again can take it up uncontested. 2/4 first up, 2/4 on Heavy and the KWT factor looks a nice play against a couple of smart ones.
The ‘Get Out Stakes’ for the sprinters has been ripped apart by scratchings here, but we think there’s a good thing we can come home with some confidence. The Queen of Caloundra, Nat McCall, saddles up Tru Blu Tango here and with premiership winning jockey Baylee Northdurft to steer, he should be donating his riding fee with this one. Two trials leading in to this means this 5YO Gelding will be forward enough to get straight to the front, control the tempo and have that kick around the Sunshine Coast that he’s had success with at the track before. Renouf makes her debut for the new stable and The Diamond look both the dangers but with their first up records leaving little to be desired, we’re happy to have a good play in the last.
