Mugs it is the biggest week in Queensland racing and up the Bruce we go for the mid week event at the Sunshine Coast and like this time last week a few shorties about but plenty of value to be had. With the rail out 5 metres the entire circuit and soft 5 conditions with rain on the way its hard to say if we get to a heavy but must be considered when launching into a few.
Dovetail Diva is the hotpot here and deserves the price around even money with horses that beat it home subsequently racing in the JJ Atkins on Saturday. I am however leaning the way of another up and comer here and with Ryan Maloney steering Fierce Warrior can be winning this. Will lead from the inside here and if not has shown the ability to sit off them in small fields and handles the heavy conditions if that precipitation falls early tomorrow morning.
In the seventeen horse field for second event you would have better chance drawing them out of a hat than launching into this lot, but hey when it doubt just load TJ Gollan, the bloke is on a magic carpet ride not even Jafar could slow down. The third is a similar race and to be honest no disrespect to Heathcote but the mugs chances of catching Starvirgo are the same likelihood of catching Usain Bolt in the 100 metre dash, NO CHANCE.
In an ultra competitive fourth event I have landed on the place extraordinaire Come In Spinner who simply cannot tick off a victory but gets another good chance here. Comes off a trial win in the soft conditions and in a small field should be able to sit handy. Loves this distance and whilst struggles for victories this track is where his best efforts are, and with Michael Cahill on a good steer is a no brainer.
Over the 1000 metre dash we have a pretty smart field headlined by the shorts about Goldsborough and that is where I will be landing here. This bloke went down just over a length to Kisukano last start and since Tramonto has come out of the same event in a four way finish last Saturday. That form is Saturday class and even with the weight this bloke should be getting home in this Class 3 Handicap.
The 2200M benchmark 70 looks like on paper designs should have it all sown up but in a big field over a trip I think this is a form race going forward. Strange to see a middle distance handicap and with only one Waller runner its almost a fair event.
Craig Williams is yet to make a huge mark up here in Queensland but he has two rides at the Sunny Coast and out of Raptures in the 6th and with Redoute’s Image in the 7th I think it’s a top chance and is deserved favourite. Comes back from a Sydney benchmark 78 and gets in well here at the weights and drawn in with speed around with One Shy Ruby and Daintree Diva Craig will be close enough to pounce late.
In the final event it is wide open and with Heirborn now with the Vandyke stable it’s a big watch. Others which peak interest include Rock Amore, Paredo and The Ritz. A mug favourite Minjee lines up but the jury is well and truly out there. Plenty of value about here and we hope you find one but the mugs are passing and putting those dollars into Stradbroke Day, what an event it will be.
