Well after a monster day yesterday at Day 2 of The Championships and another ripper meeting from Brisbane’s home of turf racing Eagle Farm, we make the journey up the Bruce Highway. The Sunshine Coast Turf Club hosts an eight race card and we find ourselves on a Soft 5 track with the rail out five metres for the entire course.
In the first event we have a four horse battle over the 1400M and Apple Tart is the deserved favourite here with the form around Alert and Ready which was franked on Friday night winning by a big margin. I won’t be taking the red odds of $1.50 but for those multi players out there, she looks a solid banker to start the day.
Race two provides a two year old maiden and with three unraced runners here the mugs will be quickly moving on to race three over the 1000m and have settled on That’lldotoo. This trip might be slightly short of his best but the long Sunshine Coast straight will give him time to wind up. Plenty of pace here will assist and should set this up nicely.
The fourth once again provides us with a three year old maiden which has a few first starters, so we will leave this to the money market movers as it appears a little to hard to bring the form lines together. The fifth event provides a nice little handicap for a Sunday. Fabulonh First up in a three horse field is just a complete forget run with no real pace. This horse is a sunny coast expert only missing the place twice out of ten starts. The soft conditions add an extra tick and with the fisherman El-Issa on board, he is a great bet at $5.50.
Vandyke versus Gollan is the battle we all wanted on a Sunday and we get it here in the sixth event. Glitter strip takes on Joy Too All. We have settled on Glitter Strip first up as it will just get a better run than Joy Too All from the wide draw. Should be able to be tucked in behind Arriverderci Roma who will lead this field off and as long as TJ has the fitness spot on will be strong with the line.
In the penultimate over the mile the mugs will be once again leaving this to the market movers. It is hard to line these up and in a big field over the mile at the coast so we will be passing here. Finally we end the day with a Benchmark 60 over the 1000m and we are taking the short way home here. Real Hussey will lead these off from the pole and that could be goodnight over the short trip. He has had one trial to tighten up and is 1/1 first up from his first prep and if he gets his own way, he will hunt like a greyhound and be off and gone before any of these even begin to let down.
