We make our way up the hill from Brisbane to the hallowed turf of Clifford Park to celebrate a life well lived of Darryl Gollan and our thoughts to Tony and the family. We have a juicy seven race card on what will probably be a chilly Friday night so lets get stuck in and find some winners.
In race one we have the Tbaaa master in Les Tilley on board and looking to steer Laurie to a victory here. He has three career starts and while they have been all over QLD gets another good surface and race which will have a good tempo with seventeen lining up. If the splits come late this could be the start we need.
The time honoured three year old handicap in honour of Darryl Gollan is a pretty tough affair. I have settled on Spirits Charm from the pole. Should lead them off here and first up is a slight risk but if this filly gets her own way Ron Goltz could be off and gone here. Will be taking on better get ready leading but at the price and with a better run in transit I think it’s a much better bet.
Have to be with Kravitz here for the Gollan yard. Draws inside and will get all the favours and probably is the moral bet of the night, sometimes things just work out. It does come off a smart win in town and over a similar trip class prevails here and will be too strong.
In race four I will be passing with the small field, fingers crossed Alert and Ready can get it done here at the poison odds of $1.50 and just run past them as has just had a tough couple of runs of late.
In the fifth event I have settled on again a runner that has just been flying, ticking boxes and she moves through the grades and there is no reason to jump of here. The picket fence is up and moving for Winter Rain and sticks the trip she has been so successful at. Wendy peel keeps the ride and get the key claim here so will be carrying 53.5 again. Draws to do no work and will be able to push off the rail around the corner and should be too strong. The hand will set this up nicely too with his out and out pace.
A benchmark 70 in the penultimate event actually brings a few decent runners together but there is a standout. Motomiss will be very hard to beat here after having to pretty solid runs in town behind horses like Say Haya and Ziemba and we get KWT the inform apprentice on to add with the claim. Will be just off the pace but in an eight horse field should be able to find clear galloping room late and be too good.
Ending the night with another small field I am going back to the well with the fancied runner in Heart Attack. The money came last time and just missed. Will be fitter here third up and will prove mighty hard to beat. All in all a competitive card on a Friday night, lets find some winners mugs!
