Townsville Preview 06/05/2021

Well while we are as wet as the famous Warrnambool Carnival down in Brisbane we head up North to the Sunny conditions of the Townsville Turf Club for today’s meeting for soft 5 conditions and the rail out seven metres from the 1000M to the winning post with it out four metres the remainder of the circuit.

In race one we start off with a maiden over the 1400M and while a few of these have form there are two standouts in Light field and Koonunga Hill. We have leaned the way of Koonunga Hill here after his last two start seconds coming from just off the pace in small fields and we get a similar recipe here which should see him break the maiden.

The second and third events are two a year old and three year old maidens, and with most of these lightly raced we prefer to be launching into the juicier races later in the card and will be moving on quickly here.

A benchmark 70 in the fourth event and we have one here that we have followed for the last couple of NQLD events and that is Cleo’s Poet. Should be able to comfortably lead them off here and dictate from there. Is third up this prep so fitness will be in full flight and with a strong record at this trip and the class of Nathan Day will be really hard to hold out.

The fifth event is a massive field of 0-55 Handicap and while there are a load of runners I think the clear on topper here id Charlotte Rules. We don’t get much of price here but this filly should lead them off and if she finds the front and gives a kick should see her winning this. She does also come to this second up and fitness ever improving so will be happy to take this price about her.

The sixth is a class three over the 1400M and while a mugs favourite Potawatomi lines up here it looks to up against it with the favourite Willygood sitting firmly atop for me. She has her first run this trip and its short enough in the market but is a great bet here after flashing late in her last start. She was in the ruck out wide and in the final fifty metres really showed a nice turn off foot. The other key play Zouvilla didn’t appear to run the trip out over the 1200M so not sure the prices line up well there.

The penultimate event looks to be the final event I will be launching into here and a benchmark 75 over the 1000M presents more value than the boxing day sales. The Chillemi and Massingham yard are always well represented and that’s no different here. The mugs however see a stack of value about Lingalonga Lass. Comes in here after a last start win at Bowen and a nice win prior at Rockhampton. Relishes this trip and pings the lids so should be right in behind the pace of El Shady and So You Dream. If the splits come late will be very hard to beat in this cracking race.
